Breaking Down Exposure Management Silos: Confronting the Network-Security Disconnect

Security and network teams silos create operational and security challenges. Organizations need a unified approach to network and security management.

The research shows:
  • Leaders acknowledge that silos exist between network and security teams.
  • Although processes are in place, confidence is still not high.
  • Most organizations worry that a lack of collaboration will lead to a security incident.
  • Despite team silos and working in separate systems, there is a strong desire to change.

In most organizations, the network and security teams have a lot of responsibility, many which can have a direct effect on the company’s security. But working under different management, and using disparate systems, they often work on separate priorities.

Skybox partnered with Sapio Research to examine how the siloed nature of the groups creates critical blind spots for attackers to exploit. By removing the exposure management silos, teams can work cohesively to reduce their workload and improve security.

Our survey of 500 security professionals and executives across North America and the UK provided some insightful—and contrary—data. While most respondents have a formal process in place and feel they have strong collaboration, they also acknowledge barriers and express a significant level of concern over the impact of miscommunication.
